A guide to buying wedding bands

2nd April 2020

If you are planning on tying the knot soon you may be so caught up in wedding planning for your big day that you haven’t even considered your wedding bands.

Although it is a small detail, your wedding ring is the ultimate symbol of the vows you made and is designed to be worn every single day. With this in mind, it is a good idea to put some thought into choosing the perfect one for you.

There are many things you should consider before buying your wedding band which is why we have put together a guide to help you in the process.

Step 1: Decide on your budget

Spend some time with your partner deciding your budget for your wedding rings. Maybe you have a style in mind already? For example, a diamond wedding band will cost more than a plain one, so you should be realistic with what you can afford. You should also bear in mind that you will be wearing your wedding ring every day, so it is important that you are happy with it. As soon as you have a budget in mind, you are ready to begin your search.

Step 2: Select a style you will love forever

The next step is to begin searching for a wedding ring you will cherish forever. Consider the style and shape of the band. Curved and shaped wedding bands have become increasingly popular in recent years as women have been steering away from traditional styles.

Once you have chosen the shape of your wedding band, you should then consider its thickness. A thin band provides a contemporary on-trend finish, whereas a relatively thick band creates a traditional finish. After you have selected the shape and width of your wedding band, you may wish to consider adding extra sparkle by selecting diamond rings. Wedding rings adorned with diamonds have become increasingly popular in recent years but it is a personal choice whether you choose plain or diamond wedding rings.

Step 3: Complement your engagement ring (if you have one)

If you have found your dream wedding ring you may wish to consider whether it will complement your existing engagement ring. Many women choose a wedding band that fits their engagement ring style, although this is not a rule you have to follow. If you wish to complement your engagement ring, try choosing a wedding band that is a similar style in the same metal colour and width. Those with diamond engagement rings may want to consider a band studded with the stone to complete the look. For example, if you own a delicate rose gold pavé set engagement ring, you may wish to choose a thin rose gold pavé set wedding ring to match. The same can be said for yellow gold and white gold. You may also want to consider couples rings, with matching metals and designs.

If you have an unusually shaped engagement ring, you may prefer to pair it with a shaped wedding band that enables each piece to sit together neatly. Again, this is down to personal preference, but it can provide not only a beautiful finish but a comfortable fit.

Step 4: Choose your correct ring size

Once you have found the perfect wedding ring, you will need to find your ring size (if you don’t know it already). It is most likely a similar size to your engagement ring, but if you are unsure you can pop into one of our stores to be measured or order our free ring sizer here.
